Many of us have all prayed for this possibility for a very long time and finally, Honda may give us the answer.
Those in the market for a new hot hatch now have something to look forward to as Honda Cars Philippines, Inc. (HCPI) may soon be launching a very special model.
According to very well placed sources, it's the Honda Civic Type-R. Yes, you read that right.
Never in the history of Honda Cars Philippines has the Civic Type-R ever been offered in the market, even though there have already been four generations of the most high-performance version of the Civic. Local examples have always been imported privately or through the gray market.
The fifth generation model was launched at the Geneva Auto Show just last week and is billed as the fastest and most agile Civic Type-R to date.
The high performance five-door is powered by a 320 PS 2.0-liter turbocharged engine, paired to a 6-speed manual transmission with rev match technology. It's wrapped in an aggressive aerodynamic package, 20-inch aluminum alloy wheels and massive 245/30 series tires to make it stand out in the street.
Keeping it on the road is independent suspension all around, governed by a new four-wheel Adaptive Suspension System, tweaked adaptive electric power steering system and a helical limited-slip front differential. Stopping power is improved too, with Brembo 4-pot aluminum calipers with 350mm cross-drilled disc brakes in front and solid 305mm disc brakes in the rear.
Taming it will be easy with three driving modes: Comfort, Sport and +R, vehicle stability assist (VSA) and the adaptive damper system.
In-car amenities include a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment with Navi, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 540 watt, 12-speaker audio system with HD radio, bolstered sports seats, leather-wrapped steering wheel and gear boot, and aluminum shift knob and sport pedals.
There is no mention of pricing or options or even if it will be sold, though all indications point to the Civic Type-R making its local debut at MIAS.
