In light of the ongoing Takata airbag inflator recall, Honda Cars Philippines Inc. (HCPI) has issued yet another recall of 10,461 vehicles. This is on top of the other 200,000 units that have been fitted with the faulty part wherein they announced the service bulletin back in December 2017.
To recap the Takata incident, the airbag inflators might deploy with excessive internal pressure when activated. In such case, the inflator casing might rupture, sending debris to the occupants when the airbag is deployed.
The cars affected by the second recall are the Honda City (2013 model), Honda Jazz and Honda Pilot (2012-2015 models). To check if your vehicle has been fitted by the inflator, owners can check if their Honda vehicle is affected through the recall webpage at hondaphil.com/services/vin-search. There, one can enter their vehicle's chassis number or Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) with the check took to see if the car is part of the Takata-fitted batch. The 17-digit Chassis Number or VIN can be found on the Certificate of Registration (CR).
Customers can also call the dedicated Honda hotline numbers at 1-800-1000-HONDA (46632) or (02) 857-7240 between 8am to 5pm from Monday to Friday or through email at email@example.com. Honda Dealers are open from 9am to 6pm, Monday to Saturday.
Replacement of parts for this voluntary recall is free of charge. HCPI says the inflator replacement will take about one hour in any of the 37 authorized Honda Car dealerships and three authorized service outlets around the country. Honda is urging their customers to replace the part as soon as possible as not to compromise the overall safety of the vehicle.
