Road-going Honda Civic Si to be revealed soon
We're all excited for the all-new Civic Type R's debut. Honda did give us a preview of the hot hatchback, and it looks very promising so far. It retains the triple-exit exhaust but gains a new wing and a vented hood. However, that won't be the only fast Civic Honda plans to offer: there's also the Civic Si.
Yes, the car you see in the images is the 2022 Civic Si, as a race car. For the time being, it's still heavily covered in camouflage. Interestingly, the visual changes on the Si compared to the standard Civic appear to be limited, although the camo could be masking some details.
The large rear wing will likely not appear on the road-going production vehicle. Instead, expect it to be swapped for a more subtle unit for the production model. However, the same can't be said for the vents on the hood and the chunky front splitter. These may either be retained or toned down.
Unfortunately, Honda did not disclose details about the upcoming Civic Si apart from calling it the “best-handling and most fun-to-drive Civic Si ever”. The new model is expected to retain the same 1.5-liter turbocharged powertrain and manual transmission from the current model but with added power. For reference, the current-generation Civic Si produces 205 horsepower and 260 Nm torque and is available solely with a 6-speed manual gearbox.
There's no word yet when the new Civic Si will debut, but Honda did say soon. Hopefully, the production version debuts before the race version breaks cover, which is set to compete at Thunderhill on December 3. The bad news is, this Si will unlikely be offered in the Philippines as with previous Si models, but we can probably expect the full blown Type R in our market in hte future.
