In its relentless drive to help keep blue skies for the future generation, Honda Cars Philippines, Inc. (HCPI) partners up with Pilipinas Shell in its search for the Philippines' fuel economy team.
Honda provided 1.8 Civic models during its fuel economy boot camp to determine the representatives for the Shell Eco-Marathon in Sepang, Malaysia. Shell initially invited the biggest fuel spenders in the country with the goal of turning them into fuel savers.
Received online entries were narrowed down to 10 finalists after a rigorous selection process. These finalists then underwent a whole day of fuel economy boot camp at the Honda Safety Driving Center.
Here, Honda taught the finalists simple yet relevant tips on how to extend one's fuel mileage and held a driving challenge to apply their new learning. After posting the top four highest combined scores from the written exam, practical driving challenge and interview screening during the boot camp, Vanessa Santos, Mel Endozo, Adrian Law and Patrick Villareal were chosen to represent the Philippines' fuel economy team.
"I am very happy and surprised at the same time to be part of the team," said Vanessa Santos. Apart from being the only girl in the team, Vanessa also topped all the qualifying tests during the boot camp. "I learned the value of accelerating with care. In order to save on gas, you must anticipate the traffic condition, maintain moderate speed and avoid sudden braking and rapid acceleration."
"The Honda Civic is very responsive," said Patrick Villareal. "It does exactly what I wanted it to do. And the best of all, I love its futuristic looks inside and out!"
Since 1996, Honda has been actively promoting fuel economy awareness through its activity called, the Honda Challenge Cup, as part of its environment conservation advocacy.
"Come high or low fuel prices, Honda has taken proactive measures in calling on everyone to get the most out of fuel, DRIVE EVERY DROP and reduce emissions as part of its longtime commitment to leave blue skies for our children," said Mr. Voltaire Gonzales, Vehicle Sales and Corporate Communications Head of HCPI.
