2018 Honda City facelift launched in the Philippines
Months after the refreshed Honda City made its global reveal, the marque's updated B-segment stalwart has just made its debut in the Philippines. The automaker dubs this redesign as the “Advanced Energetic Smart Star” concept and now packs more standard equipment and technology than the pre-facelift model.
There are four variants to choose from in the 2018 City. It starts with the 1.5 E M/T then moves up to the 1.5 E CVT. The mid-level trim is the 1.5 VX CVT and topping the range is the 1.5 VX+ CVT. Most noticeable are the changes made to the front fascia. It now gets a new set of headlights plus a grill that follows the form of Honda's 'Solid Wing Face' design language.
A reshaped bumper with new foglight housings rounds up the changes to the front. For the 2018 model year, Honda adds LED daytime running lights across the range. LED headlights, as well as LED foglights are standard in the VX+ CVT.
Subtle changes were also made to the rear of the City. The lower half of the bumper gets a honeycomb trim piece while the rear reflectors get a slight revamp. Also new are the 16-inch, diamond-cut wheels which now feature a multi-spoke design. The rest of the body carries over unchanged.
Inside, it is mostly carried over from the pre-facelift City. Changes made to the 2018 model include redesigned seats, gunmetal trim, and new gauges. Design changes are minimal but Honda did significant updates to the City's infotainment system.
Across the lineup, a seven-inch touchscreen is now standard, even on the E variants. Bluetooth Hands-free Telephone and Audio Streaming, and USB Connectivity are included in the infotainment system. Opt for the VX and VX+ variants and it adds a navigation system, multi-view reverse camera with guidelines, voice command function, Miracast and Cube User Interface (UI). Also standard in the VX and VX+ is cruise control.
Anti-lock brakes, Electronic Brake-force distribution, and dual front airbags are standard on all models. The VX and VX+ variants are also equipped with a smart entry system, while the VX+ gains dual side and curtain airbags, Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA), Hill Start Assist (HSA), and Emergency Stop Signal (ESS).
Under the hood is the same 1.5-liter i-VTEC engine that powers the pre-facelift model, Jazz, Mobilio and BR-V. Power is retained at 120 PS and 145 Nm of torque. Transmission options include a five speed manual, strictly for the entry-level model, a continuously variable transmission (CVT) for the mid-range E and a CVT with seven-speed mode exclusive to the VX and VX+. As with most Hondas, Econ Mode and Eco coaching are standard on all variants.
