Hyundai has just released a teaser photo of a new crossover. As this year's Manila International Auto Show draws closer, the company has confirmed that the mystery car will make its debut at the motor show.
This teaser suggests that Hyundai will be bringing in the Creta, their B-Segment SUV currently on sale in India. In that segment, the Creta is up against the likes of the Ford EcoSport, Nissan Juke and Chevrolet Trax.
Two years ago, Autoindustriya.com reported that Hyundai Philippines is considering the addition of the Creta to the local market. In that report, we said that the Creta was in its earliest planning stages for the Philippine market. Most recently, we also saw Hyundai Eons being partially assembled at the STAR Motors facility at Santa Rosa, Laguna, suggesting that Hyundai has begun making steps to be a part of the CARS Program. With these recent updates, it appears that Hyundai is gunning for a bigger chunk of sales in the country.
The Creta's exterior design features Hyundai's signature hexagonal grill and tapered headlights. The side on the other hand has a character line that runs the entire length of the SUV and is accented by a sloped roofline and five-spoke wheels, similar to the one seen in the teaser. Towards the rear, it gets a roof-mounted spoiler and horizontal taillights.
It is yet unknown which engines will be offered for the local market. At the moment, the Creta is available with either a 1.6-liter gas engine with 123 PS or a 128 PS 1.6-liter U2 CRDI turbodiesel that puts out 128 PS. In India, gas-fed Cretas shift via a six-speed automatic while the turbodiesels have a six-speed automatic option. Also available is a 1.4-liter turbodiesel.
