Hyundai's high-performance N family is about to get bigger, or in this case, taller. Very soon, the first-ever crossover will be joining the lineup – the Kona N. After many teasers and camouflaged photos, we now have our first glimpse of the high-performance Hyundai crossover. Don't be fooled, though. The company has yet to officially launch it. Instead, the Korean marque is just giving us a peek of what's to come.
Even though we don't fully see the Kona N yet, the photos already give us an idea of how the crossover looks. Peering through the darkness, we can see all the changes Hyundai made to the Kona. Upfront, there's an aggressive grille design paired with large central intake and side intake vents.
The low light makes it difficult to tell whether more changes are present on the side of the Kona N. What we notice are the new, larger wheels. At the rear, the N model changes are easier to spot. The performance crossover features a twin-exit exhaust along with a new bumper featuring an integrated diffuser. Moving up, and there's a double-wing roof spoiler to enhance downforce. As with all N models, a third triangle brake light has been integrated.
For now, Hyundai has kept a tight lip regarding the powertrain of the Kona N. However we won't be surprised if it uses the same 2.0-liter turbocharged mill found in the i30 N and Veloster N. In both models, the engine produces 275 PS and 353 Nm torque paired with either a 6-speed manual or an 8-speed dual-clutch gearbox (for the Veloster N). Power will then sent to either the front wheels or all four wheels.
When will we see the Kona N in full? We still don't know as Hyundai has yet to announce an official reveal date. However, these teaser images have technically revealed the high-performance crossover, at least for the exterior. With that, we expect the reveal to happen sooner than later.
