Hyundai releases new teaser image of Kona crossover

Hyundai Kona bears more of its sharp exterior in latest teaser

Hyundai gave a first glimpse of the Kona a month a go, showing off its LED strip daytime running light and its “energetic” red paint. Recently, Hyundai has released a second teaser photo, which now shows more details regarding the Kona's front fascia, and a release date scheduled for summer of 2017.

As previously suspected and seen on the spy photos, the Kona will use a two-tier headlight arrangement, similar to that found on the Nissan Juke. The upper tier of the headlights are dedicated LED daytime running lights, which also house the amber turn signal markers. Meanwhile, the lower tier lamps features the actual illuminating headlights, which according to Hyundai also uses LED.

Apart from the two-tier headlights, Hyundai's iconic cascading grill is also found below what seems to be a slim air intake. The design of the Kona is said to be “emphasized by the car’s wide stance and its voluminous, aggressive body styling,” which means that the Kona might have a more distinct style once fully revealed.

No official details have been released regarding the powertrain of the Kona. As previously mentioned, it will supposedly use a modified platform from the i20 and will have engines borrowed from the i30. Do take this information with a grain of salt, as nothing is confirmed at the moment regarding technical details.

In addition, Hyundai sai that the official unveiling of the Kona is set for summer of 2017 with more details to be released in the near future.
