Hyundai to bring high-mileage HyperEconiq Ioniq concept at SEMA


Hyundai, Bisimoto reveal the HyperEconiq Ioniq Concept for 2017 SEMA

More often than not, the annual Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show caters mostly to souped-up customs. Whether it's one-offs that come with unique bodykits or cars that have heavily modified powertrains, the SEMA Show has something for everyone in the aftermarket scene.

However, Hyundai, with the help of Bisimoto Engineering, recently came up with a different kind of custom ride. Instead of making a car with the concept of making it more powerful, Hyundai and Bisimoto made a lightweight, aerodynamic automobile that is also fuel efficient.

Say hello to the HyperEconiq Ioniq concept. Featuring a reworked exterior along with a modified powertrain, the specially-made hybrid concept benefits from the latest in aerodynamics, weight saving and fuel efficiency.


“The HyperEconiq Ioniq takes the Ioniq where we always knew it could go, without sacrificing drivability. Leveraging the outstanding Ioniq electrified platform and powertrain, we’ve focused on a variety of technical elements to bring efficiency, aero and design to the highest level,” said Bisi Ezerioha, president of Bisimoto Engineering.

Beginning with the concept's exterior, it gets a new Bisimoto Dream bodykit which is comprised of a front splitter, side skirts, duckbill spoiler and rear wheel covers. Bisimoto also installed a new coilover suspension which lowered the ride height in order to reduce ground clearance and give the concept better wheel alignment. Lightweight 19-inch carbon fiber wheels from Carbon Revolution fill up the wheel wells while the tires themselves are low-rolling resistant for improved fuel economy. To further save on weight, Bisimoto fitted aluminum brake calipers courtesy of Buddy Club.

As for its powertrain, the HyperEconiq now comes with a Bisimoto pulse-chamber exhaust system that the company claimed will improve volumetric efficiency. In addition, the hybrid concept also benefits from a Racepack OBD monitoring electronics, NGK spark plugs and enhanced electric motors. Meanwhile, the synthetic oil used on the engine is a bespoke eco low-friction PurOl Elite (0W20).

Bisimoto claimed that the with the upgrades in place, the hybrid concept is capable of returning 34 km/l. With it, the HyperEconiq Ioniq beats the standard Ioniq Hybrid which only averages 24.7 km/l.

The unique hybrid concept will be on display at 2017 SEMA Show from Oct 31 – Nov 3.
