The Pebble Beach Concours d' Elegance, one of the major events of the Monterey car week, is a gathering (well, a competition) of some of the world's finest classic automobiles from before and after the last war. And they all converge on a golf course to be judged in competition.
Vintage elegance may be the name of the game at Pebble Beach, but that doesn't really stop some car manufacturers from coming to the show with something special from their respective design bureaus around the world. Just like Infiniti.
Nissan's premium automobile marque will be coming to Pebble Beach with something extraordinary: the Infiniti Prototype 10.
According to Infiniti, the Prototype 10 concept car is a classic speedster re-imagined, and in single-seater form. With a long, low-slung body, Infiniti says that the concept is meant to be evoke the past while showing the future of electrified performance.
"The Infiniti Prototype 10 echoes the layout and design of some of the most evocative car designs of all time, where power was celebrated through high-powered single-seat competition cars,” said Mr. Karim Habib, Infiniti's executive design director. “Our new concept speaks of an electrified future, something which is reflected in its form and details. It is appropriate that we found inspiration in an optimistic bygone era in which cars were characterized by the simple love of driving."
As with most concept cars, it is likely the Prototype 10 will not see production, though Infiniti says that the concept will give a glimpse of the future design cues of the company's cars. Infiniti says the Prototype 10 is an evolution of the Infiniti Q Inspiration.
Infiniti also reasserted that by 2021, all of their new production cars will be electrified.
The concept is not eligible for actual competition at Pebble Beach, though given its look (which is rather reminiscent of the BMW GINA concept) the Infiniti Protype 10 could draw a quite a crowd.
