Infiniti, the luxury division of Nissan, has recently announced that all new models by 2021 will be offered with an electric powetrain. The announcement comes directly from Nissan CEO Hiroto Saikawa, who was speaking at the Automotive News World Congress. This news puts Infiniti together with other manufacturers who also plan to electrify their model line up by 2020 and onwards.
Together with the announcement of electrification on all future models, Infiniti also plans to launch its first pure electric vehicle in the same year. However, they did not give any specific details as to whether it will be an all new model or a pure EV version of their future vehicles. It is likely that Infiniti will use technology from parent company Nissan during the development of their first pure EV.
Aside from pure EV, Infiniti also says that they will be offering a mix between pure EVs and e-Power vehicles. For those who don't know, e-Power technology is currently found in Nissan vehicles such as the Note and Serena. That said, Infiniti could make an all new model or add model similar to the Note under the Infiniti name.
Earlier at the 2018 North American International Auto Show, Infiniti did debut the Q Inspiration Concept. However, they did say that it will use the company's proprietary VC-Turbo powertrain instead of being a pure EV or using e-Power. However, it may be used as design inspiration for future Infiniti EVs.
