Recently, Nissan's luxury brand Infiniti officially announced its intention to enter the growing EV market with the release of an all-new concept. Set to debut at the 2019 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit, Infiniti claims it will feature their new design language for electrification.

“The concept car we will show in Detroit is the beginning of a new era for Infiniti, and an illustration of where we want to go with the brand. Electrification and other new technologies have given us the opportunity to evolve our design philosophy,” said Karim Habib, Executive Design Director at Infiniti.

While no exact details have been released, it looks like the upcoming concept will be a follow-up of sorts to the Q Inspiration concept that was revealed during the 2018 NAIAS. But unlike last year's concept which came in the form of a sleek sedan, the new concept will be an all-electric crossover.

Based on the teaser photo provided, it will have a similar looking front fascia as the Q Inspiration. Sleek tapered headlights, along with what looks to be a huge front grill can be seen on the new electric concept. Further adding to the crossover's ruggedness are the huge wheels and tires, and the gloss black wheel lip moldings on the muscular wheel arches. Finally, the concept appears to have a coupe-like roofline which adds to the EV's sleek demeanor.

As for what's underneath, Infiniti said that it will use a new platform purpose-built for electric vehicles. Without a traditional engine and transmission layout, this will allow Inifiniti to make more spacious cabins and lounge-like interiors.

With the company set on electrifying their entire lineup by 2021, it comes as no surprise as to why the company is shifting towards EVs.

The 2019 NAIAS will take place at the Cobo Center in Detroit Michigan from January 13 – January 28.
