Even though 2020 is about to end, Nissan isn’t done launching new vehicles yet.
The Japanese brand is set to introduce a new vehicle in Indonesia very soon. Whether it is an all-new model or a regional launch of an existing vehicle, we still don’t know. There’s no official launch date either. What we do know, is that the upcoming model will be a 'compact SUV, built for Indonesia’s urban adventurous families', according to Nissan.
“The newest Compact SUV is designed with bold Nissan design identity, rich in features and technologies, and is a perfect city adventure companion for aspirational Indonesian customers. This product will feature the state-of-the-art Nissan Intelligent Mobility technologies, giving greater confidence, excitement, and connection to the world around you,” said Evensius Go, President Director, PT Nissan Motor Distributor Indonesia.
There’s still a lot of questions about this mystery model Nissan will launch in Indonesia. Apart from the vague description above, the automaker only provided a teaser photo showing the vehicle’s headlight and DRL signature. Interestingly, they look very similar to a model launched last October.
From the looks of it, the slim headlights and L-shaped LED DRLs are nearly identical to those on the all-new Nissan Magnite. Unfortunately, we can't confirm it yet as the rest of the vehicle is still covered. Checking the Nissan Indonesia site, it's also impossible for the mystery model to be the new Kicks since it has already been launched in the country.
Assuming it is the Magnite, it means that Nissan’s smallest crossover yet is coming to the ASEAN market. It also means that the crossover could eventually be sold in the Philippines in the future.
For reference, the Magnite is the smallest crossover in Nissan’s range, slotting below the Juke and the Kicks. It is powered by a 1.0-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine rated at 100 PS, and is paired to either a manual or automatic transmission.
