ISUZU Philippines Corporation has reported that its globally acclaimed D-MAX pickup topped its segment in October, based on official sales figures released by the Truck Manufacturers Association of the Philippines (TMA). According to TMA data, the Isuzu D-MAX sold a total of 253 units in the first month of the last quarter, amounting to 30 percent of the total pickup sales of 839. The D-MAX's year-to-date sales have now totaled 1,693 units, or 24 percent of the overall 6,996-unit pickup tally.

In October, the Isuzu D-MAX bested both the Toyota Hilux (244 units or 29 percent) and the Mitsubishi Strada (221 units or 26 percent). IPC attributes this sales success to the arrival of the Global D-MAX, which now offers the same powerful and fuel-efficient 3.0-liter common-rail direct-injection turbocharged diesel engine found under the hood of the Isuzu Alterra.

The local auto industry had a good month in October, selling 11,194 units and enjoying a 7-percent increase in sales from September's total. Commercial vehicles accounted for 63 percent of the October tally, while passenger cars were responsible for only 37 percent of the sales total. All Isuzu products sold in the Philippines-the D-MAX, the Alterra, the Crosswind, the trucks and buses -are commercial vehicles.

"It's really no surprise that the new Global D-MAX is doing so well in the market right now," said IPC president Keiji Takeda. "Discriminating Filipino vehicle buyers know an excellent pickup when they see one. And the D-MAX presents the best value for their hard-earned money."

More good news for the Philippine car industry is the fact that year-to-date vehicle sales (January to October) have already totaled 95,244 units-a whopping 19-percent improvement from the same period in 2006. With two more months to go, the industry should easily surpass the target of 108,000 units it has set earlier this year.

Isuzu is a significant contributor in this feat as its year-to-date sales for 2007 (7,902 units) also translate to a 19-percent increase compared to sales in the same period last year (6,618 units).
