It seems Nissan won't be the only automaker launching a new SUV this month. Isuzu Philippines Corporation (IPC) announced that the all-new mu-X will be arriving in a few weeks. The date? September 22, 2021.

The 2022 mu-X is one of the most highly anticipated models to debut this year together with its pick-up truck sibling, the D-Max. As early as October 2020, IPC already teased the SUV's upcoming arrival this 2021. While there was a report of its launch supposedly delayed to 2022 due to the global chip shortage, it seems Isuzu managed to sort out these issues altogether.

What can we expect from the 2022 mu-X? We already have a good idea of what it will look like inside and out. Meanwhile, a reliable source says there will supposedly be five variants to choose from – 4x2 LS A/T, 4x2 LS-A M/T, 3.0L 4x2 LS-A A/T, 3.0L 4x2 LS-E A/T, and 3.0L 4x4 LS-E A/T. Prices are expected to start at PHP 1,590,000 for the base LS A/T, while the top-of-the-line variant could retail for PHP 2,450,000.

As for specs, our source says there will be two turbo-diesel engines to choose from, similar to the D-Max. The first engine option is the 1.9-liter RZ4E engine, which produces 150 PS and 350 Nm torque. The second and more powerful engine is the 3.0-liter 4JJ3-TCX producing 190 PS and 450 Nm torque. Transmission choices include a 6-speed manual and automatic. 4WD will be available only on the top-spec LS-E, while the LS and LS-A models are RWD only.

Possibly the highlight of the new mu-X is the addition of Isuzu's suite of smart safety systems. Some of the safety features include forward-collision warning, autonomous emergency brake, pedal misapplication mitigation, adaptive cruise control, automatic high beam, lane departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, rear-cross traffic alert, and a multi-collision brake system. However, these will likely be offered on the range-topping 4x2 and 4x4 LS-E variants only.
