The local B-segment crossover market might just see yet another contender this year. Hyundai Philippines shared a short video on Facebook highlighting the design of the Kona, the company's newest small crossover. It was shown a couple of weeks ago as it won the iF Design Award this year.
Now, Hyundai Philippines has teased the small SUV and, alongside that, the all-new Santa Fe. Needless to say, 2018 is shaping up to be a big year for the Korean automaker. Set to be unveiled during this year's Manila International Auto Show, these two all-new crossovers cover both the entry-level and high-end spectrum of the segment.
With Hyundai previewing the Kona, where does that leave the Creta? Does this mean Hyundai will be having two B-segment crossovers later this year? For now, it seems certain that the Kona will grace the World Trade Center in a few days.
The Kona made its debut in June of 2017 and has been offered in the European market for quite some time now. So, what should we expect from it? For starters, there's the unique styling which eventually paved the way for the all-new Santa Fe. It features a dynamic dual headlight design, with the botoom portion equipped with what Hyundai calls 'composite lamps'. That same unique treatment is also seen at the rear.
According to the official spec sheet from Hyundai South Korea, the Kona measures in at 4,165 mm long, putting it right in the middle of the B-segment crossover fray. It's also worth noting that the Kona is closest in size to the Nissan Juke. Once revealed, it is set to go head to head against models like the Ford Ecosport, Honda HR-V and Suzuki Vitara as well.
Engine range has yet to be determined but more information will be available once the covers have been pulled at MIAS 2018.
