For the past few weeks, we've been trying to figure out what Ford Philippines has in store this coming January 23. Initially we thought they were getting ready to launch the all-new Explorer. However, sources close to the matter said that the mid-size SUV has yet to arrive. In addition, Ford is having problems ramping up production at their Chicago factory.
With the Explorer ruled out of the equation, our next best guess is that Ford could possibly launch new variants of the Ranger or Everest. Today, we can confirm that the automaker will indeed be launching an all-new variant of the former. Based on the invite Ford sent, the 2020 Ranger FX4 is set to debut in the country.
So what can we expect from the new Ranger FX4? First launched late last year, the pick-up truck gets a new set of bumpers derived from the XLT model. Meanwhile, a portion of the front apron has been blacked out which gives it a meaner look. But perhaps serving as the most noticeable change is its black front grill which appears to have been derived from the US-spec pick-up.
Other changes Ford made to the FX4 include bigger 18-inch alloy wheels (previous version had 17-inches) painted in gloss black, a new metal sports bar at the back, and various 'FX4' decals and badging on the doors and tailgate. As for the FX4's interior, the PH-spec could come with leather seats, and maybe even faux carbon fiber accent trim.
While exact specifications have yet to be revealed, we won't be surprised if the FX4 will still come with the tried-and-tested 2.2-liter turbo-diesel engine that's good for 160 PS and 385 Nm of torque. Power will then be sent only to the rear wheels via a six-speed automatic transmission.
Official pricing and specs of the 2020 Ford Ranger FX4 will be revealed next week during its launch.
