Thieves planned to extort money from Ferrari family/company
When one should hear the term grave robbing, more often than not, people would associate it with the ancient times as bodies or personal effects found in the graves were stolen. However, the recent plot foiled by Italian police shows that a gang of organized criminals are still doing the practice today or were planning to. Their target? The body of automotive legend Enzo Ferrari.
Italian investigators have been suspecting the gang's plan to carry out the body snatching plot following previous arrests made regarding drugs and weapons trafficking. Once the body was stolen, the gang would then demand a ransom from the Ferrari family or corporation. Thankfully, Enzo Ferrari can still rest in peace as the plans were botched by police. No other details regarding the plot were released.
Enzo Ferrari died in 1988 at the age of 90. He is buried in an above-ground family tomb at the San Cataldo Cemetery in Modena near the Ferrari plant in Maranello. Born in 1898, Enzo Ferrari would soon become one of the most important figures in automotive history as well as creating the automotive brand which allows his namesake to live on until today.
