You may recall this bright orange bonkers version of the Jaguar XE saloon being unveiled earlier this year. Dubbed the XE SV Project 8, this high performance version of the XE is a 300-unit limited run by Jaguar’s Special Vehicle Operations (SVO). Pushing 600PS with a claimed top speed of over 320 km/h, certainly this saloon will be no slouch once it’s been put through its paces.
It appears Jaguar has done exactly that recently, as they’ve recently reported on the results of the Project 8’s testing around the Nürburgring – with a new lap record. Clocking 7 minutes and 21.23 seconds, the XE SV Project 8 officially beats the previous saloon record by roughly 11 seconds, making it the fastest production saloon to ever lap the 20.8km circuit.
“The SVO design and engineering team’s mission was to create the most track-focused road-legal Jaguar in history – not only the fastest, but also the most agile. As a result, only the roof and front door skins of Project 8’s body are carried-over unaltered from XE and 75 per cent of its mechanical hardware is new. This astonishing Nürburgring Nordschleife record validates the success of such extensive changes," said Mark Stanton, Director of SVO.
With its performance pedigree validated at the ‘ring, the Jaguar XE SV Project 8 promises proper performance once it reaches the 300 lucky owners by next year.
