007 is famous for his high-speed car chases, high-tech gadgets, and intense fight scenes; traits that aren't exactly environmentally-friendly. In the next James Bond film, however, we might actually see the legendary (but fictional) British spy 'go green' after British media outlets reported that Bond is set to drive an electric Aston Martin for the upcoming 25th Bond film.
Teports say that Bond will be behind the wheel of an Aston Martin Rapide E, the company’s first all-electric vehicle. The brand first previewed the Rapide E as a concept back in 2015 and later confirmed it for a limited production run of 155 units. The electric Aston Martin is expected to make its debut later this year.
According to British newspaper The Sun, it was the film’s director, Cary Joji Fukunaga, who pushed for the British spy to be in an electric vehicle for the upcoming film. Furthermore, it states that an insider described the director as a real 'tree-hugger'.
Considering how Bond is always equipped with the most advanced, state-of-the-art gadgets and drive the best car available all the time, it wouldn’t be surprising if 007 does end up driving something more modern like an electric car. We can presume the Rapide E will come with some unique gadgets the British spy could use against the baddies.
As for the Rapide E, it is expected to be powered by an 800V, 65kWh lithium-ion battery pack and powers two electric motors producing 610 PS and 950 Nm torque. However, the only problem with the electric Aston Martin is the range, which is currently rated at around 320km. This means Bond would have to find someplace to charge after a long drive.
The upcoming Bond film has a tentative release date of April 2020. Filming is set to begin this year.
