It looks like it won't just be the all-new Renegade Jeep Philippines will be introducing soon. Also set to arrive on Philippine roads is the all-new Jeep Compass.
First previewed by the automaker last year at the 2019 Manila International Auto Show, the new compact crossover will serve as one of the brand's latest models on offer for 2020 aside from the subcompact Renegade they teased weeks prior.
The all-new Compass will sit alongside the Cherokee but is slightly smaller in terms of overall size. It also features a marginally different exterior. The Compass gets its own distinct seven-slot front grill, eye-catching headlights, and a unique front bumper. Slim, rectangular LED taillights, an optional gloss black roof, and an unpainted rear bumper further give the Compass its own unique look. In true Jeep fashion, the Compass also features the signature squared-off wheel arches that are present across all Jeep models.
Open the doors and heaps of leather cover the Compass which can be seen on the seats, as well as on the steering wheel. Depending on the variant, neat touches of brightly-colored trim accents can be applied on the interior; particularly on the speakers, contrast stitching, instrument panel, and on the gear selector. Providing infotainment is a Uconnect touchscreen that is available in various screen sizes. Other available features on the Compass include selectable driving modes, automatic climate control, cruise control, steering-wheel-mounted media controls, and even electronic parking brake.
Engine options for the all-new Compass have yet to be revealed. However, international markets get a choice of two turbo-diesels and three gasoline-powered inline-fours. There are also various transmissions which include a nine-speed automatic, and a seven-speed dual-clutch. But should Jeep Philippines source the new Compass from China, the Compass could get a 1.3-liter turbocharged inline-four that is available in two states of tune: 150 PS with 270 Nm of torque, and 180 PS with 285 Nm of torque.
To date, there is no pricing yet for the 2020 Jeep Compass. But should the Compass (as well as the Renegade) come from China, Jeep Philippines might be able to price the two competitively as they could take advantage of the ASEAN-China Free Trade Agreement.
With the COVID-19 pandemic still posing a threat in the country, we won't be surprised if Jeep will hold the reveal of the Compass and Renegade through online means.
