Three weeks ago, Jeep officially took the covers off the 2019 Renegade. Sporting a sleeker and more modern design, the updated crossover comes with a plethora of new technologies, as well as an updated engine lineup.
Having already seen its exterior, we now get to see the 2019 Renegade's refreshed interior along with a host of other upgrades. For starters, it now has a new center console and a slightly tweaked dashboard. A new smartphone holder, along with bigger cup holders aims to make the cabin a more comfortable place to stay. Other changes seen inside the 2019 Renegade are the reshaped central aircon vents, redesigned instrument panel and the new climate control system.
In terms of in-car amenities, the Renegade is now available with the 8.4-inch Uconnect touchscreen system. Uconnect itself has received an update, and it now supports Apple Car and Android Auto. It also comes with built-in navigation, USB, Aux and Bluetooth connectivity.
Aside from having two turbocharged gasoline engines, the 2019 Renegade is also available with a 1.6- or 2.0-liter turbo-diesel engines. The former produces 120 PS while the latter can be had in either 140 or 170 PS, depending on the variant. Available transmission options for the 2019 Renegade include a six-speed manual gearbox, seven-speed dual-clutch and a nine-speed automatic. For improved fuel efficiency, both the turbo-diesel engines come with auto stop/start technology.
In true Jeep form, the Renegade comes standard with an array of off-road capability features. Acting as the 4WD system is Jeep Active Drive. This system automatically operates the 4WD system. It can send the right amount of torque to the rear wheels in any driving condition. It also has Jeep Active Drive Low which serves as the Renegade's crawl function with hill-descent control (HDC). There are four driving modes to choose from in the 2019 Renegade via the Jeep Selec-terrain; Auto, Snow, Sand and 4WD.
Opt for the Trailhawk model and the Renegade gets a serious upgrade. Ground clearance is boosted to 210 mm while wheel articulation is guaranteed up to 205 mm. The Selec-terrain system, on the other hand, gets an additional mode called 'Rock' which maximizes traction and grip in rocky terrain.
Safety systems on the Renegade were also upgraded for 2019. Features like lane departure warning, active emergency braking, forward collision warning, traffic sign recognition, speed assist, traction control and even hill-start assist can now be specified in the updated Renegade.
