Audi's upcoming EVs will be more exciting with help of Ken Block
Ken Block is famous for the Hoongian brand and his Gymkhana video series, which have since garnered millions of views worldwide. He has driven several vehicles over the years, competing in rallycross starting with Subaru to Ford then back to Subaru earlier this year. However, it seems Subaru won't be his only automotive partner this year.
Block announced today that he has signed with Audi to help develop the brand's electric lineup. While the Head Hooingan is famous for piloting loud, gasoline-powered, tire-slaying machines, he is no stranger to EVs. Last year, Block competed in the Dakar Rally, driving an all-electric truck for the Extreme E series.
“Audi is the brand that ignited my passion for motorsport. I am extremely excited to start this new chapter. Together, we will develop innovative projects and push the boundaries of electric mobility,” said Block.
Before the deal was announced, Block visited Audi in Germany and tried out several vehicles including the Audi Sport quattro S1 – the car that ignited his passion for motorsports and rally. He also drove the e-tron Vision Gran Turismo and the RS e-tron GT.
Both Block and Audi did not disclose specific details regarding their partnership. However, they did say their partnership will be exclusive “to the field of electric mobility”. There are various possibilities on what Block could help develop at Audi. One of which is the RS Q E-Tron that Audi will field at the 2022 Dakar Rally. With his long history in rallying and Dakar, it makes sense to have Block enhance the vehicle further. It wouldn't be surprising if he would also pilot the EV at the race.
Whatever the case, we can expect Audi's upcoming EVs to be a bit more fun and exciting with Ken Block around.
