Hints at the future of the brand’s premium aesthetic in a larger segment
Kia Motors America ignited the 2013 Chicago Auto Show with the launch of the all-new Forte SX 5-door. It's eye-catching European-inspired hatchback design is complimented by an all-new 1.6-liter gasoline direct-injected (GDI) turbocharged four-cylinder engine putting out 201 hp and 264Nm of torque making it the most powerful Forte in Kia's lineup.
A lower trim level is also available as the Forte EX and has a 2.0-liter GDI four-cylinder engine putting out a healthy 173 hp and 209Nm of torque through a 6-speed automatic transmission. The Forte 5-door's pricing will be announced soon before its launch this third quarter of the year.
Aside from the Forte 5-door, Kia also unveiled a gorgeous Cross GT concept at the show. It is aimed to give a hint of the design of the brand's future luxury crossover vehicles. The Cross GT is considered to be a larger premium version of the Sorento with a 400 hp 3.8-liter hybrid powertrain mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission and an all-wheel drive layout.
“The debut of the GT in 2011 heralded a new frontier for Kia, both from a design and a business perspective. It beautifully illustrated to the world that the brand was ready to explore the possibility of perhaps one day offering a full-size rear-wheel-drive luxury saloon.” comments Peter Schreyer, Kia Motors Corporation President and Global Chief of Design.
