Kia has now officially launched the all-new Seltos, the new baby of their crossover range that includes the Sportage as well as the Sorento.
The Seltos has been a long awaited model from the Kia, as it will serve as their primary contender for the growing and highly competitive small crossover segment that includes the likes of the Nissan Juke, Honda HR-V, and even the closely related model from Hyundai: the Kona.
The Seltos was designed by Kia at their designed studio in South Korea, and was premiered in India several months ago. Kia was much more liberal with the design of the Seltos with a boxy crossover look, widened fenders, a very modern front end with a different take on the the tiger nose grill.
As announced by Kia Philippines executives during our drive of the all-new Seltos in South Korea, there will be three grades for the model. In a separate post on their social media page, the company also announced the pricing of the three variants:
2020 Kia Seltos LX 2.0L IVT – PhP 1,098,000
2020 Kia Seltos EX 2.0L IVT – PhP 1,198,000
2020 Kia Seltos SX 2.0L IVT – PhP 1,498,000
For convenience, all models will get automatic headlamps; projector halogens for the LX and EX, while the SX will get LED headlamps. LX models will have standard DRLs, while the EX and SX will have unique LED DRLs that make the Seltos stand out, especially at night. All models will come with 17-inch wheels with 215/55/R17 tires. No space saver tires here; all models will get full size spare tires.
The common denominator among the three variants is the 2.0-liter naturally aspirated engine that produces 149 PS and 179 Nm of torque. The SX will have a push button ignition system. All Philippine Seltos variants are front-wheel drive only with continuously variable transmission known as an IVT. Foreign examples do have turbocharged engines and some with all-wheel drive, but those will not be launched in the Philippines anytime soon, or at all.
All Seltos models will get the 8-inch touchscreen audio system that allows for two Bluetooth devices to connect simultaneously. All units will have Apple Carplay and Android Auto as standard equipment, along with 4 speakers and 2 tweeters.
The base LX will have cloth fabric seats, while the EX and SX will get leatherette with cloth upholstery. All models are 5 seaters, and have 433 liters of cargo space (VDA).
For safety, all Seltos variants come with disc brakes front and rear, and anti-lock brakes will be standard. The SX will get all the available safety features such as stability control, hill start assist, downhill brake control, as well as side airbags and curtain airbags. All models will have rear view camera, while the SX will have rear sensors as well as cruise control.
The Kia Seltos will be available at dealers nationwide. It will be offered in 5 colors with Starbright Yellow, Iron Grey, Mars Orange, Dark Ocean Blue, and Gravity Grey. A Starbright Yellow with a black roof as well as a Clear White with a black roof will be two additional options. All models will have a 5-year, 160,000 kilometer warranty.
And here's another surprise: up until the end of November, customers who place a reservation fee of PhP 5,000 at a Kia dealership will be eligible for a PhP 50,000 discount on all variants. So if you're really in the market for one, your timing couldn't be better.
