Columbian Autocar Corporation, the official distributor of Kia vehicles in the Philippines, has just held the media preview of two new generation models: the all-new 2015 Kia Sorento and the all-new 2015 Kia Grand Carnival. The event was graced by Kia Philippines executives led by CAC president Ms. Ginia Domingo as well as executives from Kia Motors Corporation.
2015 Kia Sorento
The all new Kia Sorento is the third generation of the Korean automaker's mid-size crossover SUV. Kia says the all-new Sorento builds “on the success of its predecessor” and “retains its sleek profile but is enhanced by its shell’s increased length, reduced height, and extra width giving” for “a bolder-on-the-road presence”.
The 2015 Sorento 's design was led by Kia’s Namyang design studio in Korea and with significant input from the brand’s Frankfurt, Germany, and Irvine, California design studios.
The interior design was led by Kia’s European design team in Frankfurt and aimed to give the cabin “the ambiance of luxury”. The longer dimensions and extended wheelbase give the car more space. The 2015 Kia Sorento features 3 rows with seating for 7 persons in a 2-3-2 format. Luggage capacity is increased by 17.5% for the 7-seater Sorento.
Powering the 2015 Sorento is a 200 PS 2.2L 4-cylinder CRDI turbo diesel engine. Handling the power and torque is a 6-speed automatic transmission and a Dynamax all-wheel drive system. The transmission features a drive-mode select system.
2015 Kia Grand Carnival
Alongside the all new Sorento, Kia Philippines also revealed the Philippine-spec Kia Grand Carnival.
The third generation Kia Grand Carnival (also known as Carnival, Sedona in other markets) is an all new, clean sheet design. The European inspired-look of the new generation Grand Carnival debuted at the 2014 New York Auto Show.
Locally, the Grand Carnival is a long-wheelbase version (3060mm) and measures in at 5115mm long, 1985mm wide and 1755mm tall. There is seating for 7 persons inside the cabin with a 2-2-3 format.
Like the Sorento, the 2015 Kia Grand Carnival comes powered by the 200 PS R-Line 2.2-liter CRDI turbo diesel mated to a 6-speed automatic gearbox. The Grand Carnival is front-wheel drive.
Kia Philippines has yet to officially release the pricing of the 2015 Grand Carnival and 2015 Sorento, though Kia Philippines executives said that the Sorento and Grand Carnival are both priced at the PhP 2.3 million mark.
Expect both models to be publicly displayed at the 2015 Manila International Auto Show.
