Kia ProCeed teased ahead of global debut

While we don't get the Kia Ceed in the Philippines, the Korean automaker's hatchback is proving to be a hit in Europe nonetheless. Thanks to Euro-inspired styling and a promising value proposition, it has become a worthy opponent of the Volkswagen Golf, Ford Focus and Honda Civic hatchback.

An all-new model was revealed a few months ago but Kia wants to amp up its styling even more with the next-gen ProCeed.

Now, the ProCeed has long been the sportier looking, three-door version of the Cee'd but Kia has decided to mix it up a bit. For its next iteration, the ProCeed will be a station wagon and, by the looks of the teaser, it's a sharp looking one too.

It was first previewed as a concept during the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show and it pulled crowds with its sleek, aggressive exterior, taking cues from the sporty Stinger. That car had a bulging front end, a coupe-like profile, frameless windows and dramatic LED tail lights that ran the width of the rear. It was more shooting brake than station wagon.

The teaser shows just the rear end of the production model but it shows that it still has some of the concept car's flair. Most prominent is the full-width tail lights which, perhaps predictably, been toned down from the show car. It also shows the wide stance of the wagon, similar to the concept shown late last year. Also seen is the integrated rear spoiler and the slim rear windshield.

Other than the teaser photo, Kia isn't laying down all their cards just yet, not mentioning any details for the upcoming small wagon. However, should it remain faithful to the concept, it's possible that the production model might get cues from the Stinger as well, particularly in the front end. We're not expecting it to have frameless windows but Kia might just surprise the world if they do push through with that look.

Once it reaches production, it is set to compete against the likes of the Volkswagen Golf Variant (also known as the Golf GTS locally), Peugeot 308 SW, and the recently introduced Ford Focus wagon, just to name a few. The 2019 Kia ProCeed will be revealed on September 13 and will make its public debut at this year's Paris Motor Show, to be held from October 2 to 15.
