Just a week ago, Kia revealed their plans to make a Ceed-based crossover. Now, they're at it again as they've unveiled yet another concept crossover, and it looks like it's aimed squarely at the Ford EcoSport.
It's called the SP Signature Concept, and it could just be the upcoming Hyundai Venue's cousin. Not only that, Kia has also confirmed that they will be putting it into production later this year. With that, we could be looking at 10 crossovers from Kia. At the moment, there's the Rio X-Line, Soul, Stonic, Sportage, Niro, the yet-to-be-named (but confirmed and upcoming) Ceed-based crossover, Sportage, Sorento, and Telluride. At the rate they're going, they could soon offer more crossovers than hatchbacks, wagons and sedans in the future.
Back to the SP Signature Concept, it appears to sit in the same class as the Stonic. However, it will likely be smaller, sitting in the sub-four-meter crossover class like its possible twin, the Hyundai Venue. The SP Signature Concept is actually an evolution of the SP Concept shown in India last year, a market that has been seeing high demand for small high-riders.
Dial down some of the concept car details such as the slim side mirrors and the big wheels, and you'll get a general idea of what the road-going SP Signature Concept may look like. There are the high-set LED daytime running lights, accompanied by the main beam just below it. Also present is the signature 'Tiger Nose' grill, which could gain slats once it's out on the road.
The sides on the other hand shows a high roof line, along with a window line that kinks upwards towards the rear. Two character lines are also seen on the shoulder line, which gradually fades at the center. At the back are slim wraparound tail lights, more character lines on the tailgate and a small spoiler. Being a crossover, the entire lower half of it is surrounded by what appears to be black plastic cladding.
For now, Kia does not have a production-ready name for the SP Signature Concept just yet.
