Third-generation Kia Picanto unveiled ahead of Geneva Motor Show debut
Weeks after Kia previewed the all-new Picanto online, the Korean automaker has fully revealed their redesigned A-Segment contender ahead of its Geneva International Motor Show debut. The 2017 Kia Picanto is the third generation of the brand's A-Segment hatch and takes cues from its bigger sibling, the Rio.
Like the Rio, the all-new Picanto features a more aggressive and bolder front fascia. It still retains the signature 'Tiger Nose' grill at the front with its slimmer headlights merging into the grill. On to its side, it retains the current generation model's upward sweeping window line. At the rear, Kia has rounded of the corners of their small hatchback and gave it C-shaped tail lights. What Kia has shown is the GT model which comes with a sportier front bumper and red highlights throughout the exterior. While overall length is retained at 3,595 mm, wheelbase has been extended by 15 mm to a length of 2,400 mm.
Inside, the 2017 Kia Picanto gets a sportier design that conforms with the brand's current theme. Immediately apparent is the large three-spoke steering wheel and the vertical aircon vents that flank the dashboard. A new dual-pod instrument cluster also makes its way in the Picanto, along with a new multi-info display.
Placed at the center is a 'floating' touchscreen infotainment system which has the latest in in-car amenities according to Kia. Below it sits the new automatic climate control system that comes with a digital display. The automaker has yet to mention the other in-car features available in the 2017 Picanto. Kia did mention that the new-generation hatchback will carry new technologies in comfort, convinience and safety.
As for trim and upholstery, Kia added that customers can choose from a range of colors to further personalize their Picanto. With the extended wheelbase, Kia also claimed that the new-generation Picanto will have more cabin and cargo space compared to its rivals.
Kia has not yet mentioned the available engines and transmissions for the 2017 Picanto.
The all-new A-segment hatchback from Kia will be making its official public debut at this year's Geneva International Motor Show. Sales of the 2017 Picanto will begin in Q3 of this year.
