For their display at the upcoming LA Auto Show this year, Volkswagen will be bring something with a hint of performance to the show floor. Apart from the three-row VW Atlas, a mildly fettled Passat in the form of this Passat GT Concept will take the space of VW’s booth.
The GT encompasses several subtle design changes aimed at making the Passat more sporty for those that deem the original too sedate. A black honeycomb grille with red pinstripes draw the most attention against the white concept model, with the grill's design itself being an ode to the Golf GTI.
Following the theme of performance are a sculpted front fascia with side vents, blacked-out window trim, and 19-inch Tornado wheels that house a set of red painted brake calipers.
Power still comes from a stock version of the 3.6L TSI VR6 motor pushing 280PS. A six-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic is then in charge of handling all the power. In terms of performance though the Passat GT receives a sport exhaust with trapezoidial tips, giving the saloon more grunt than usual. Setting off the rest of the look is a 15mm drop in ride height to give the GT a sleeker profile.
The interior of the GT also receives a minor refresh. Carbon fiber trim is sprawled across the door trim and instrument panel while black and grey sport seats with contrast stitching provide seating up front.
The Passat GT is a one-off vehicle developed at the VW facility in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
