Nissan arrived at this year's Los Angeles Auto Show with a very special edition of their C-segment contender, the 2017 Sentra Nismo. Equipped with motorsports-inspired factory parts from Nissan's tuning arm, the Sentra Nismo gets a radical exterior redesign, along with an uprated powertrain and suspension.

“For 2017, we're bringing new excitement to Sentra with the Sentra Nismo, which brings driving enthusiasts aftermarket tuner-style performance straight from the factory,” said Michael Bunce, vice president, product planning, Nissan North America Inc.

Based off the recently launched 2017 Sentra SR Turbo, the Nismo-spec nameplate gets a new bodykit. It gets a more aggressive front bumper that is flanked by strips of LED daytime running lights. A new rear bumper with an integrated diffuser also makes its way in the Sentra Nismo. All this is topped off by 18-inch black alloy wheels wrapped in 215/45/R18 Michelin Pilot Sport tires and trunk lid spoiler.

Like the exterior, the cabin of the 2017 Sentra Nismo has red motorsports-inspired accents. The bright hue can be seen on the center console, Alcantara-leather steering wheel, fabric seats, push-button start, leather shift knob and Nismo embroidered carperts. Meanwhile the cabin itself is only available in one color trim; Charcoal.

Standard entertainment system is provided by a 5-inch colored display that supports CD/DVD, AM/FM radio, Satellite Radio, Bluetooth and Siri Eyes. Available as an option, however is the 5.8-inch touchscreen infotainment which comes with NissanConnectSM, navigation, mobile apps, and voice recognition for audio and navigation.

With the Nismo Premium Package, Nissan will even throw in a Bose Premium audio system with 8 speakers.

At the heart of the 2017 Sentra Nismo is a 1.6-liter Direct Injection Gasoline (DIG) turbocharged inline-four. It generates 190 PS at 5600 rpm along with 240 Nm of torque available from 1600 – 5200 rpm. It has a compression ratio of 10.5:1, benefits from spray-coated and mirror-finished cylinder bores and features a variable pressure oil pump and cotinuously variable valve timing control system (CVTCS). Transmissions available include a 6-speed manual and a continuously variable transmission (CVT).

Aside from the turbocharged powerplant, the Nismo-spec Sentra also gets upgrades in both handling and stopping power. Nismo tweaked the suspension system of the Sentra by fitting it with rear monotube dampers, along with tuned front springs and struts. Nissan also claimed that the dampers now react quicker which is suited for spirited driving.

It also has bigger brakes to compensate for the increase in power. The front axle gets 11.7-inch vented discs while the rear set has 11.5-inch sold discs.

“The new Sentra Nismo will attract new customers not currently considering Sentra – enthusiasts looking for a fun-to-drive vehicle with a sporty image yet at an attainable price point. As the first ‘core’ Nismo model in the Nissan lineup, Sentra Nismo takes us back to Nissan’s roots of compact performance sedans. The time has come,” added Bunce.

The all-new 2017 Sentra Nismo is built at Nissan's Aguascalientes plant in Mexico. On the other hand, the engine is assembled in Yokohama, Japan.
