200 units of the Defender, and counting
The new Defender has proven to be a very popular model in the Philippines. Just how popular is the rugged SUV? According to All British Cars, the exclusive distributor of Jaguar-Land Rover in the Philippines, they have already sold 200 units of the Defender since its local debut.
Selling 200 units might be nothing for mass-market manufacturers, but it is a milestone for a luxury marque like Land Rover. That's a very surprising fact given the pricing of the model: the Defender 110 D240 Explorer Pack we tested recently retailed for PHP 6,510,000, while the entry-level variant starts at PHP 5,690,000.
“Launching the vehicle head-on with the Covid-19 situation, we were unsure of how the Defender line would initially take-off. Not surprisingly, it was very well received in the Philippine market. The amount of support of its enthusiasts for the brand was tremendous. Customers rushed to reserve their unit instantly after the reveal. The Philippines’ following for the vehicle keeps on growing as we see more drivers find the love for everything adventure -- and that is what the Defender brand stands for,” said Chris Ward, president of Land Rover Philippines.
To mark the occasion, Land Rover Philippines held a special ceremony at the showroom for the release of the 200th vehicle sold. The company even had a big cake shaped like an off-road adventure with Defender scale models on it to match.
