When Coventry Motors -the official Land Rover distributors in the Philippines- began pre-orders for the all-new Defender last year, the diesel version was not available. All Philippine-spec Defenders (both 90 and 110) were only available with a 3.0-liter inline-6 with a 48V mild-hybrid system good for 400 PS and 550 Nm torque.

Even with the most powerful engine as standard, some customers still clamored for a diesel-powered Defender to be offered. Nearly a year since pre-orders of the Defender began, it seems Land Rover Philippines have heard their prayers; the Defender can now be ordered with a diesel engine.

Land Rover Philippines announced that the Defender 110 and 90 will be available with the company’s Ingenium D240 diesel powertrain. Compared to the gasoline-mill, the twin-turbo 2.0-liter inline-4 diesel engine is a bit down on power at 240 PS compared to the mild-hybrid, but 430 Nm torque more than makes up for it. The diesel Defender is also fitted with an 8-speed automatic transmission.

“We are thrilled to share this much awaited development. The Defender was well received in the Philippine market. With the growing following and demand for this truly exceptional vehicle, introducing a new powertrain and an additional body option comes as a natural progression in line with the brand’s intention to satisfy every driver’s desire to own and drive the most capable Land Rover yet,” said Chris Ward, president of Coventry Motors.

Similar to its gasoline-powered counterparts, the Defender D240 can be ordered with various design packages. Specifically, there are four options to choose from: Urban, Country, Adventure, and Explorer. Depending on the variant you choose, each one comes with different styling cues both inside and out.

Interested in the diesel Defender? You can now pre-order at both dealerships in EDSA and BGC, and the units will be available for delivery early next year. Land Rover didn't release an SRP yet though, but if you do inquire we're quite sure they would provide you with the digits for the diesel Defender.
