Lavish 2018 Kia K900 flagship sedan goes official

Kia pulls the wraps off the second-generation K900

When it comes to flagship sedans, one would normally think of German-built cruisers. Kia wants to change that with their all-new, full-sized luxury sedan, the second-generation K900. It was previewed in sketch form a few days ago and has now officially unveiled it in their home market.

Granted, Kia has been making flagship sedans since the early 90's but the new K900, dubbed the K9 in its home market, is their biggest sedan to date. At a little over five meters long, it's the largest sedan the Korean automaker builds and is sized similar to its German rivals. Like the previous-generation K900, it is the most luxurious car Kia has to offer.

Its front fascia is composed of two large, upswept headlights with a larger version of the brand's 'Tiger Nose' grill taking center stage. Below it are wide corner air intakes which also house the vehicle's foglight and there is yet another air intake at the center. Chrome surrounds the grill and air intake pieces plus uniquely-shaped chrome trimmings are at each bumper corner.

The side profile on the other hand features a swooping roofline design and straight window lines. There's little in the way of character line with one defined stroke running just above the pull-grab door handles. More chrome is present at the sides with a section of the side mirror, the entire window frame and lower section of the car getting brightwork. Lastly, the rear and it gets a similar treatment to the front with upswept, upright tail lights. The wider look comes courtesy of rounded rear quarter panels and exhaust configurations vary per engine selection.

Inside, it adapts a wide cockpit design with the door panels moving outwards to give the appearance of more space. Leather is abound from the top of the dashboard to the center console. Also, the dashboard employs a two-level design which separates the flat upper section with the rounded lower section. Different kinds of wood trimmings may be applied to the cabin and there are two colors to choose from, namely black or tan.

There are three options to motivate the all-new Kia K900. It starts with a 3.3-liter V6 with 300 PS and 348 Nm of torque. At the middle is a larger 3.8-liter V6 putting out 334 PS and 395 Nm of torque. For those who want even more, there's the 5.0-liter V8 producing 425 PS and 510 Nm of torque. Interestingly, none of the engine choices are turbocharged, an unusual sight in today's trend of boosted, small-capacity engines.
