Are you the all-new GAC GS8 flagship SUV?

Earlier this year, GAC revealed the refreshed GS8 for the 2021 model year. While it may not have received a noticeable redesign on the outside, GAC was more focused on giving it a cleaner interior, new standard features, as well as a more powerful turbocharged engine.

The updated GS8 is now available in China. However, it has yet to arrive at local GAC dealerships in the country. But soon, it seems we might be saying hello to the next-generation GS8 already. Images of what could be the all-new GAC GS8 recently surfaced online.

If the photos are to be believed, GAC's three-row flagship SUV gets a major makeover. It gets a bolder-looking front grille, redesigned LED headlights, new LED daytime running lights, and a sportier front bumper. The rear, on the other hand, looks like it now has slimmer LED taillights, smoother quarter fenders, larger dual exhaust pipes, and a clean tailgate design.

Assuming this is the next-generation GS8, the flagship SUV appears to have taken inspiration from Cadillac, particularly the XT4 compact crossover. The swooping headlights and even the massive grille up front appear to have been derived from the American luxury marque.

Details about its powertrain remain a mystery. However, rumors suggest that the next-generation GS8 will be available with hybrid power. This could mean that the 2.0-liter turbocharged engine will be carried over but will now benefit from electrification. More interesting, however, is that the hybrid technology was supposedly derived from Toyota.

With no definite date yet as to when the 2022 GS8 will be launched, we can only guess as to when GAC will officially reveal its new-generation flagship SUV. Speculatively, it could debut before the year ends.

When will it arrive in the Philippines? We estimate that it might arrive in the country mid- or late-2022 assuming it launches later this year. But will we receive the facelift version first before the all-new model ultimately replaces it? Watch this space.
