All-new Prius to debut on September 8
Over a month ago, leaked photos of the all-new Prius spread online, along with the dimentions for the new model. A member of Prius Club Malaysia was able to obtain clear photos of the 2016 Toyota Prius.
Pictured above appears to be the entry-level and mid or top-spec models. The silver Prius has no foglights and rides on higher profile tires while the gray Prius features foglights and lower profile tires. To signify its hybrid powertrain, the 2016 Prius has a blue highlight surrounding the “T” badge.
Toyota has confirmed the launch date for the all-new Prius which is set on September 8. By the looks of things, the production model isn't far off from the first photo leak last July. The 2016 Prius retains it Kammback profile, with the tail end of the car abruptly cut off for aerodynamics. The styling theme set by the Mirai has been applied for Toyota's all-new hybrid, featuring “boomerang” head lights and tail lights. The headlights have been swept upwards, almost reaching towards the front pillars, while the rear tail light blends into the character line on its side.
The all-new Prius sits on an all-new platform called the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA). Power comes from a 1.8 liter gas engine paired with an electric motor. The combined output of the two endines produce 150 PS and is mated to a Continuousy Variabe Transmission.
The Company claims that the all-new prius will be a lot more efficient and will even be offering more fuel saving with the all new battery pack giving the owner up to 56 kilometers in full electric mode.
