All-new Fortuner to be available in 4 variants
Set to debut in Thailand this July 16, more details on Toyota's best selling SUV have leaked online. The new Fortuner will be all new for 2016, featuring the Hilux's all new chassis and range of engines. According to the leak, the Fortuner will be available with one gas engine and two diesel engines mated to either 6 speed manual or automatic transmissions.
The variants available for the all-new Fortuner will be the 2.4G 4×2 6MT, 2.4V 4×2 6AT, 2.8V 4×2 6AT, 2.8V 4×4 6AT, while the only gas variant will be the familiar 2.7V 4×2 but now mated to a 6 speed automatic. It appears the the only 4x4 model will be in the top range 2.8 V model, which replaces the 3.0 V model in the outgoing generation.
Being based on the all-new Hilux, the Fortuner's engine lineup consists of the new GD diesel engine family. The GD Diesel engine lineup consists of a 2GD with a 2.4-liter four-cylinder delivering 150 PS and 343 Nm of torque, and a more powerful 1GD 2.8-liter diesel engine in two outputs, one with 177 PS and 420 Nm of torque for the manual and 177 PS with 450 Nm of torque for the automatic.
More details leaked include a variety of standard and available features for the 2016 Fortuner. This includes the Smart Key System with Keyless Entry, a Start/Stop Button, knee airbags, ABS with EBD, Brake Assist, Vehicle Stability Control system, Hill Assist Control and emergency light system.
