Lexus has just revealed a tricked-out LX 570 that's ready to take on whatever Mother Nature throws at it. This is the Lexus J201 concept, and it's geared to take you, your family, and your gear wherever you wish to go.
Inspired by Lexus owners who dress up and take their SUVs off-road, the J201 concept combines rugged, go-anywhere capability with luxury amenities. Starting with the most obvious of changes, the J201 gets an upgraded suspension courtesy of Icon Vehicle Dynamics. It has improved upper and lower control arms, and a tweaked adjustable ride height that allows the J201 to stand two inches in the front and an inch taller in the back.
To protect the chassis, Expedition Overland installed a more rugged front bumper, skid plates for the transfer case and fuel tank, as well as rock sliders. They even put a swing-out cargo carrier at the back that can carry the spare wheel, and 5-gallon water cans, along with a rear ladder to make access to the roof much easier. As an added touch, the J201 also comes with a power winch, an LED light bar, and 17-inch alloy wheels with 33-inch 285/70 General Grabber X3 tires.
But it's not only the chassis and suspension that Lexus tinkered with. Under the hood, the 5.7-liter V8 is now equipped with a Magnuson supercharger. With it, the V8 now cranks out a meaty 557 PS, 169 PS more than stock. It also gets a TJM Airtec snorkel, upgraded differentials, and rear ARB air lockers for better traction. Complementing the more powerful V8 is StopTech cross-drilled rotors all around for improved stopping power.
Need to secure your stuff while going off the beaten path? There's a Goose Gear storage system when you open the rear tailgate. It comes with pull-out drawers, and even dog bowls to keep your furry friend well-fed and hydrated while on the go. And just like the Lexus Black Line Edition models, the automaker also threw in Zero Halliburton luggage cases to carry whatever gear you need.
With some enthusiasts seeing the LX 570 as nothing more than a more expensive Land Cruiser, some people forget that the flagship SUV is more than capable of going off-road with its high-tech 4x4 features, as well as its adjustable ride height. But with the J201 concept, Lexus proved that even the most opulent of SUVs can go over any terrain without sacrificing luxury.
So if you're thinking of actually dressing up your LX 570, why not take some inspiration from the J201 concept and make your LX be more capable off-road.
