BMW introduces most powerful production M3 to date

A few weeks ago, our spies spotted a more potent version of the BMW M3 doing laps around the Nurburgring. Now, the German automaker has confirmed the car to be the M3 CS and has officially revealed the high-performance sedan.

The M3 CS is a lightened and beefed up version of the standard M3. Besides that, this specially tuned M3 also gets its own unique suspension set up, as well as special interior touches to enhance the car's exclusivity. Speaking of exclusivity, BMW will limit the M3 CS production to just 1,200 cars worldwide.

Under the hood of the M3 CS is an uprated version of the twin-turbo inline-six powering the standard models. Whereas the non-CS M3 produces 431 PS and 550 Nm of torque, this special model makes 460 PS and 600 Nm of torque. With these figures, it also outmuscles the M3 Competition Package as well. BMW claims a 0 to 100 km/h time of 3.9 seconds and an electronically limited top speed of 280 km/h.

As for its exterior, it gets a resculpted front fascia with larger air intakes and more defined creases. The hood is also unique to the M3 CS as it features a more prominent power bulge. To enhance aerodynamics, there is a carbon fiber front splitter, an integrated trunk spoiler and a more aggressive diffuser at the back. The M3 CS then rides on a unique set of lightweight allow wheels and behind these special rims are uprated brakes.

Inside, it is mostly trimmed in leather, Alcantara and carbon fiber. Also present are door sills featuring special strips inscribed with M3 CS lettering. As an ode to past M3s, the familiar BMW M stripes have been incorporated into the front seat belts. And while this is a more focused version of the fast sedan, it packs a Harman Kardon surround sound system with the BMW Navigation system Professional.

Meanwhile, the chassis tweaks consist of new hardware, as well as re-tuned software. It gets a new pair of springs and dampers, giving it more focused handling, according to BMW. There's also the electronic differential, which is carried over from the M3 Competition Pack. And then there's the revamped Adaptive M Suspension, offering the driver the choice between Comfort, Sport and Sport+ modes, including different damper settings in each of the three modes.
