Following a reveal at the 2018 Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) Test Day, Honda UK stole the show by creating an uncanny version of the renowned Civic Type R. Dubbed the 'Project P', this unique iteration of the hot hatch is a one-off project by a specialist team from the Product Development team of Honda of the UK Manufacturing (HUM).

Starting off with a pre-production version of the Type R, the team adapted an entirely new design from the B-Pillar backwards to create the bed of Project P. Sweeping lines from the roofline towards the rear conceal the flatbed where the trunk and rear seats would originally be placed. The concept vehicle is then finished in Rallye Red and retains the large wing that has since been associated with the new FK8 Type R. This particular wing was cleverly engineered to be moveable when items need to be loaded into the bed.

With the same powertrain as the standard Type R, 0-60 is done away with in under 6 seconds and the pickup will reach a top speed of 265 km/h.

Alyn James, project lead for the Type R Pickup, had this to say about their latest project “We have a special projects division at the factory in Swindon and this project was a fantastic opportunity for the team to show just what their creative minds could do. The passion that our engineers have for Honda is shown in our latest creation and we are even considering taking it to the Nurburgring to see if we can take the record for the fastest front wheel drive pickup truck!”
