Toyota Australia assembles a Camry consisting of more than 500,000 bricks

What do you do when you have more than 500,000 LEGO bricks laying around? Build a car, more specifically a Camry.

That's what Toyota Australia recently did for the 2018 Brickman Awesome exhibition in Melbourne. The life-size replica weighs in at two tons (0.4 tons more than the actual car) and closely resembles the sedan from which it is based on.

From the sweeping front and rear fascias, down to the alloy wheels that bear the Toyota logo, all the way to the distinct lettering and working headlights and taillights, the Camry in brick form is a marvel to behold. The LEGO replica apparently took 900 hours to build over a span of eight weeks.

“We're so excited to introduce the all-new Toyota Camry in a fun and interactive environment to Melburnians. The dedication and time that has been put into this one-of-a-kind project really meshes with Toyota's dedication to the quality, durability and reliability of our respective products. It also provides us a fun platform to showcase the stylish Camry design in a different and interactive way,” said Nicolas Hogios, Toyota Australia chief designer.

The LEGO Camry was built and designed by Ryan 'The Brickman' McNaught, the only certified LEGO builder in the southern hemisphere and one of only 14 in the world.

“I'm so excited to be unveiling my newest LEGO creation - a life-sized Toyota Camry - at Brickman Awesome in Melbourne. It's taken over two months to build and comprises more than 500,000 bricks, but I'm really pleased with the outcome and can't wait to see what everyone else thinks of it! I'm delighted we have partnered with Toyota and I've had this opportunity to build my first full-scale LEGO car,” said McNaught.
