Another year, another April Fools' Day. From Audis that come with built-in rice cookers, to BMW actually giving someone a free car on the unlikeliest days of the year, automakers sure like to join in on the antics every April 1.
But has anyone thought of making a convertible people carrier? Toyota sure did.
For this year, Toyota Australia went over the top by releasing the 'first-ever' Hiace droptop. Say hello to the Hiace Convertible. That's right, Toyota Australia actually chopped a roof off a Hiace for this year's joke.
While it may look like something made just for design and rendering purposes, the company actually took the time to make it somewhat real and drivable. It still comes with plenty of seats and appears to have a more rakish windshield. More than that, Toyota even went and installed a roll-bar just in case someone flips this leviathan.
Besides taking the roof off, the guys over at Toyota Australia also thought it would be to nice to offer an optional built-in pie oven affectionately called 'Pieace'. If you have time to take out the entire family in a droptop van, I guess you also have plenty of time to bake some pies for them just for the journey.
Sadly, since this is just for April Fools', Toyota will most likely keep it as joke. However, we won't be surprised if some aftermarket shops decide to make a real convertible out of the Hiace.
