The regional branch of the Land Transportation Office (LTO) in Western Visayas has designed a creative information dissemination program that teaches traffic rules and regulations to the youth while they’re still in school.

LTO Region 6 Director Dennis Singson started the program in Cebu City and cited the stark improvement in the students’ appreciation of traffic rules when observed in an urban setting.

The agency plans to continue the program and implement it in one school in La Paz, Iloilo City.

As more and more provincial areas become urbanized, it is crucial for local agencies in the region to prepare the people, especially the youth, for the challenges that lie ahead.

If this program continues to produce positive results, the LTO head office should consider suggesting this to the Department of Education (DepEd) and the Commission on Higher Education (CHED).

A short 30-minute course tackling road courtesy as a driver or pedestrian will go a long way in making motoring in Metro Manila and the Philippines a whole lot better.
