New attempt to weed out corrupt LTO officials and employees

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) will be conducting a lifestyle check on all of its officials and employees in adherence to the anti-corruption drive of President Rodrigo Duterte.

In a memorandum signed on Monday (July 29), LTO Assistant Secretary Edgar Galvante has directed all officials and employees of the LTO to comply, adhere, report, and submit all the necessary documents needed. Documents such as their latest Statement of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth (SALN), and Income Tax Return (ITR), as may be required by the Presidential Anti-Corruption Commission (PACC), the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), and the Office of the Ombudsman.

According to Galvante, the agency fully embraces transparency and will exert full efforts to rid the LTO of corrupt officials and employees. He also asks and encourages the public to immediately report any irregularities or corrupt activity they may witness or experience with LTO officials and employees.

Under the Duterte administration, the LTO has launched a number of programs to counter corrupt practices and 'fixed' processes, such as the establishment of an online appointment and payment system for registration fees of new motor vehicles and motorcycles, live streaming of bidding and procurement processes, and the establishment of its own plate-making facility with robotic embossing machine. Hopefully, the surprise lifestyle check will also weed out corrupt employees and officials within the LTO.
