Genesis, Hyundai's luxury brand and division, has in recent years evolved in its design language. This is in no small part due to the contributions of Belgian car designer Luc Donckerwolke. In 2015, Donckerwolke was placed in the forefront of Genesis' designs alongside Peter Schreyer, better recognized as Chief Design Office of Kia, another brand under Hyundai Motor Group. Come 2016, Donckerwolke moved up as Chief Designer for Hyundai-Kia, alongside Schreyer.

Luc Donckerwolke moves up as Hyundai Motor Group's Chief Design Officer

Two years since, and another changing of the guard has come for Hyundai Motor Group. As of the start of this month, Luc Donckerwolke will replace Peter Schreyer as Chief Designer. This follows after Peter Schreyer has moved behind the scenes and will instead be providing design advice to the top brass of the Group as President for Design Management. With Donckerwolke's most recent experience as Senior Vice President and Head of Hyundai/Genesis Design Centre, and with Schreyer's stepping into more of a consultancy role the move ushers in what could be another revolution in the brands' overall design language.

Of course, Hyundai Motor Group saw fit to place someone of equal competence in Donckerwolke's vacated post. The position now falls on Sangyup Lee, (now former) Head of Styling for Hyundai and Genesis. With all three seasoned individuals spearheading the Group's design team, we can rest well knowing that Hyundai, Genesis, and Kia will all continue to come out with sharp looks and distinct designs in the many years to come.
