The City of Makati has followed the cue of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and has also announced the suspension of the Unified Vehicular Volume Reduction Program (UVVRP) or the number-coding scheme on December 26, 30 and January 2, 2017 so that motorists may be able to use their vehicles during these days.
Makati City legal officer and spokesperson Atty. Michael Camina explained why the city government decided against lifting the number-coding scheme on December 23 and 29 saying that it would worsen the congestion as these are regular working days.
“Makati has a daytime population of four million. This includes those who work, do business, shop or visit Makati during work days. December 23 and 29 are regular work days. Lifting number coding on these days would only worsen the present traffic situation and further inconvenience motorists and the general public,” said Camina.
