SMC Tollways president and CEO could serve as new DPWH chief
The incoming administration is in the process of assembling its new cabinet members, and that involves the possible appointing of a familiar face as head of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
President-elect Ferdinand 'Bongbong" Marcos Jr. announced he's picking SMC Tollways president and CEO Manuel "Manny" Bonoan as the new DPWH chief once his administration starts work on July 1.
Bonoan, an engineer, has had his previous tenures in the agency he served as an assistant secretary during the Ramos administration, before becoming an undersecretary in the Estrada and Arroyo administrations.
Later on, he became the president and CEO of SMC Tollways, which consist of the South Luzon Expressway (SLEx), Tarlac-Pangasinan-La Union Expressway (TPLEx), the STAR Tollway, the NAIA Expressway and the Metro Manila Skyway.
“I intend to nominate Manny Bonoan for the DPWH. He has spent almost all his professional life in the DPWH. I know him very well. I know he will do a good job,” said President-elect Marcos.
Bonoan is likely to accept this latest appointment, according to a reliable source. And with that said, the DPWH is bound to have an experienced chief that could manage and continue the country's massive infrastructure projects.
