Maserati to recall 28K Quattroporte, Ghibli for 'unintended acceleration'

2014-2016 Quattroporte and Ghibli affected by the recall

Maserati is recalling certain model year 2014-2016 Quattroporte and Ghibli manufactured February 1, 2013 to November 30, 2015 for possible 'unintended acceleration'.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), a U.S. government agency, the Quattroporte and the Ghibli are being recalled because the driver-side floor mat can be trapped between the accelerator pedal and the vehicle carpet.

About 28,000 vehicles are affected by the recall, with 4 reported incidents of the accelerator getting stuck due to the dealer installed driver-side floor mat. No injuries or deaths were reported to have resulted from the incidents.

If the floor mat moves and becomes trapped between the accelerator and the vehicle carpet, it may possibly cause the accelerator pedal to become stuck; resulting in high vehicle speeds that could lead to a crash.

Maserati will notify owners of the affected vehicles. Dealers will replace the driver-side floor mat and possibly the accelerator pedal cover. The recall is expected to begin on April 29, 2016.
