Radically styled, aggressively priced
Passed by a Mazda dealership lately?
Well, if you've noticed a pick up truck that looks like a concept car there, that's the new BT-50.
The new Mazda BT-50 pick up has already been on sale in Thailand (where the demand for pick up trucks is incredibly high), and Mazda Philippines is getting ready to formally announce the model this Friday, though dealers have already begun displaying the new truck.
The BT-50 has the same powertrain as the Ranger (a car it shares its platform with) with either a 3.2 liter Duratorq inline 5 or a 2.2 Duratorq inline 4. The 3.2 version gets a 6-speed automatic while the 2.2 gets the same, as well as a 5-speed manual option. The difference between the Mazda and the Ford is in the styling, as the BT-50 is designed to be “sportier” than its sibling, the Ranger.
After a quick chat with their sales people, here are the variants and prices:
2012 Mazda BT-50 3.2L 4x4 6AT PhP 1,490,000
2012 Mazda BT-50 2.2L 4x2 6AT PhP 1,350,000
2012 Mazda BT-50 2.2L 4x2 5MT PhP 1,300,000
