Mazda Motor Corporation has announced that the total global production of the Mazda6 (known as Mazda Atenza in Japan) reached three million units at the end of November 2014. The first generation Mazda6 had 1,945,850 units sold; the second generation posted 718,882 units and the current generation yielded 335,773 units by far.
According to the Japanese automaker, the milestone figure was reached in approximately twelve years and nine months after the production of the first-generation Mazda6 in February 2002. The Japanese automaker added that the Mazda6 is the second fastest Mazda model to reach three million units of production, following the Mazda3.
The third generation Mazda6 was fully redesigned in 2012 adopting Mazda's Skyactiv Technology and the Kodo – Soul of Motion design language. It was positively received in the global market being named the 2014 RJC Car of the Year in Japan and nominated as a finalist for the 2013 World Car Design of the Year. Mazda says the third generation Mazda6 has claimed over 40 different awards globally.
With this, the 2015 Mazda6 will be available in the global market from January 2015, with launches starting from Japan and the United States. Mazda claims that the 2015 Mazda6 features a “more refined design, enhanced dynamic performance, higher-quality ride, new car connectivity system and i-Activsense safety technologies.”
